Sekinchan - Photogenic Location

Sekinchan, one of the rice production area in Malaysia.

I start journey at about 5:00am in the morning was looking forward to the morning sunlight. Surprisingly it took only 1 1/2 hour from Kuala Lumpur to the destination with the new highway.

I arrived before the sun goes up, the first location we (was with one of my friend) scouted was the Nan Tian Gong temple, located in Site A of Sekinchan paddy field.

My car was parked next to these flag poles and I make a picture.

The Nan Tian Gong temple, perhaps right at the center of the paddy field...

It was December, the harvest season. The locals told us that the whole harvest process will probably takes another 10 days. I drove around the paddy field and all we can see is cropped field and hardly find any ripe paddy to shoot...

Soon, the sky goes brighter and brighter we discovered a few sweet spots.

A Mitsubishi Pajero came and I took multiple shots in high burst mode. I like the way shadow casted.. I call it this picture "Working Hour". The locals probably start work at that hour.

And of course the Paddy, ready to be harvested.

The sun was getting stronger, as I turn around I saw a stream reflecting the sunlight.

Perfect! Still water and beautiful cloud. Knowing that I will not be able to take a good shot in a backlit conditions, I decided to take 7 exposures and merge it later in photoshop.

Morning Sun...

We continue shooting, and scout for other location. Sekinchan also famous with its fishing village. We took a drive to the beach and I discover this lovely anchor nicely placed on platform...

Overall it was a rewarding day with lots of nice pictures taken and beautiful scenery... I will be back the next season...

Christmas Trip 2010 - Fraser's Hill (Part 1)

Fraser's Hill located in Pahang, about 2 hours of slow drive from Kuala Lumpur town. Frankly nothing much to see there unless you are bird lover. For me, the cold temperature is enough for me to plan for another visit. The lowest was 15◦c, pretty cool/ cold for Malaysia.

Shot this after a short shower, right outside the hotel lobby, Silverpark.

Everything slows down even your heart beat...

A cricket spotted, Raynox filter was clipped onto my 50mm for this shot.

Jiu Fen (九份), A village in the early Qing Dynasty that housed nine families , every shipment arrived in "nine portions" from town. Later Jiufen ("Nine portions" in Chinese) became the name of the village.

How to spend the vital 15 minutes in the morning?

Lock the door with 4 secured locks, take the elevator. Walk towards your car in the basement, start, and begin to drive. After driving about 5 meter, you notice that you forgotten your breakfast. No problem, park your car at the nearest parking lot to the elevator and head back to your house.

Open the 4 secured locks, grab your breakfast at your fastest pace head towards the elevator and hop into your car, start, and drive to the guard house and ready to start the journey to work.

You are at the guard house barrier, you need to grab your access card to open up the barrier. After searching for 10 seconds, great! You left your card in the house. Without second thought, reverse your car, drive toward the nearest parking lot to the elevator and head back to your house.

Open the 4 secured locks, wait! Where are keys? Damn! Head back to the elevator, go to the parking lot, grab the key in your car's glove box, rush to the elevator.

Elevator doors open, unlock the 4 brilliantly designed secured locks!, grab the card that lying nicely on the table. Lock the doors and head back the elevator, to your car, start and drive...

That is how you can spend your vital 15 minute right before you drive to work in the morning!

CakePHP - Load Model within Model

There are times that we want to link-up the model, but not the "hard way" example: hasOne, hasMany, belongsTo etc.
When you are in such situation the code below might be able to help you.

We can actually use the model function by using ClassRegistry class.

CakePHP - Pagination

I've spent quite sometimes looking for this information, after lots of trial and errors I've found the solution.

If you want to know what is the param to be inserted in
$paginator->prev("Previous", null);

The second parameter has to be like below:
array("url"=>array("limit:".$limit)), url is fixed. In the array "name_of_param":"value_of_param"

If you have dynamic limit in your page, and you want to maintain it when you click on Previous or Next. This is the solution you need.

By the way, if your CakePHP is not up to date (like mine), when you want to do a toggle sort for your TH, the default function might not work. Update your pagination.php to this version:
https://trac.cakephp.org/changeset/8125

Then you'll be able to toggle this sort('Name', 'name')?>

CodeIgniter - Removing index.php by Changing .htaccess and httpd.conf

I've done this many, many times. But whenever I setup a new site on a new developer machine, I will have to do research over and over again. I decided to write down the details, actually only a few steps.

Remove the index.php in the CI config file
$config['index_page'] = "";
Add .htacess file in the root of your application
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|robots\.txt)
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

CakePHP or CodeIgniter

I’m deciding which framework to use, there are lots of pros and cons for both framework. Personally I have experience in CodeIgniter, which I find it is fairly easy to use/ master.

On the other hand, as the new company using CakePHP, I wanted to jump into the bakery world, but something stops me.

No doubt about it, lots of people are supporting CakePHP, if you type CakePHP vs CodeIgniter on Google, it will returns you tons of result. I have a tight deadline to meet. To pick up a new framework might not be a wise choice at this time.

At the documentation helps me to decide, CakePHP produce a bad use guide if compare to CodeIgniter. As for me, I came from CI, I think I will stick to CI for the time being.

I have decided, CodeIgniter is the way to go! But I will revisit CakePHP, and definitely will get to know more about it. Hopefully the future version will provide a better user guide and documentation.

Apache - Making Localhost and Virtual Hosts (vhosts) Work Together

I’ve been searching for this for quite sometimes almost forget about it. Anyway, I’ve found the solution here to share…

If you have a situation that you want to round your live site from your machine, you can always change the hosts file and your conf file. Example, you want to make local version www.mysite.com accessible

Add setting in your Apache Configuration file (httpd.conf), for me I prefer to add in a new file so that it will not mixed up

# Virtual hosts
#Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

Include conf/extra/mysite-vhosts.conf

In mysite-vhost.conf, you have to set

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin anyemailaddress@anymail.com
DocumentRoot "C:/Apache/htdocs/mysite.com"
    ServerName www.mysite.com
    ErrorLog "logs/mysite.com.log"
    CustomLog "logs/mysite.com-access.log" common
</VirtualHost>

Pre-create the log file if Apache prompt you error when restarting.

Next, change your hosts file to (your hosts file located in [Windows] C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts)

Do this: (you can access via mysite.com or www.mysite.com)

127.0.0.1       localhost
127.0.0.1       mysite.com
127.0.0.1       www.mysite.com

If you restarted your apache right now and have other file that located in your htdocs folder, these site will not be accessible, for example your http://localhost/test will not work. The solution:

<VirtualHost _default_:80>
DocumentRoot C:/Apache/htdocs
</VirtualHost>

Restart your apache and DONE!

Everything seems so right, you have planned for each and everything. But you forget you depend on something to achieve your plan, what if the something failed?

Life is full of obstacles, there are ups and downs. You will never stay down forever, and you will never stay up forever; you will go up one day, you will drop down one day.

I believe in law of attractions, if you have negative thinking, everything around you will turn bad, from bad to worse. Bad energy attracted by your negative thinking. I told myself, when things fall apart, be calm.

So now I dropped from the top, the worst thing had happened, the good thing is I will no go down anymore, there is one and only way to carry on, climb up.

Time to take a break, you can never start a new and more exciting chapter if you did not end the previous one. So do not stop if you face problem, the only you will fail if your stop trying.

There are more than one beach around, look around you might find a better one. Bring along your dogs, bicycle and your swimming suit definitely there will be useful in elsewhere!

After that incident, Speedy became unexpectedly famous, even Steve, Sullivan, Smith and Susan imitate him by changing their name to Speedy. Not just that, everyone that heard about that incident start imitating him by changing their name as well.

Like one its rivals' Constellation handsets, the Meridiist is unashamedly bulky and, in the hand, gives the impression that rather than containing any kind of phone tech, it's actually a solid block of aluminium with a screen stuck on the front.

So how does it justify the car-sized price tag? Well, build quality is, as you'd hope, outstanding. The screen is made from an apparently an 'unscratchable' 60.5 carats of sapphire crystal, though we're too scared to take a stanley knife to it just yet. And then there's the USP, a digital clock on the top. This is actually quite a charming touch, although the fact that it disappears when the screen goes into power-save strips it of any real practical use.

A first time user might come to the site and just the main knife is flipped open. It’s immediately clear what the main benefit and purpose of this thing is: it’s a knife. But for the advanced users, a little thumbnail catch is still visible so they can slowly start to pull out lesser used features when they’re needed.

Many people’s web-site are like a Swiss army knife with every damn tool in there pulled out and exposed. “What the hell is this site for?”, a first time visitor might wonder. And like that, you’ve lost them. They’ll check the next result on Google.

Think of an effective design like a Swiss army knife. It has tons of features neatly tucked away inside, but you don’t see them all at once.

Keep the site simple with a clear path and purpose. Extra stuff on the page actually does have a detrimental effect in terms of confusion and distraction. Be adamant about eliminating unnecessary pieces of a design.

Reportedly, deodorant manufacturer Right Guard has created an armpit-based method of advertising which has cleverly been dubbed "pitvertising." We've no idea if the trial will turn into anything permanent, but unless garb with these displays are given away for free, we can't imagine too many self-respecting Londoners becoming walking stare magnets just because.

Would any advertiser fancy this pitvertising? .. I personally prefer it to be called "Armpitising" ?
